It is suggested by experts to exfoliate your face at least once a week but what about the rest of your body? When you buff the surface of your skin, you remove all dead skin cells and expose new, radiant skin.  It’s important to exfoliate properly, by choosing the right product and not over-exfoliating. Here are some basic steps to follow:

Choose the right product

There are many exfoliators to choose from; some are designed for your face and others especially for your body. Some are made with plastic beads which are damaging to the environment, while others (like ours) are made with Turbinado Sugar, Sea Salt or other all natural raw materials. It’s also good to look for something that has been made with gentle ingredients that aren’t going to break down your skin with harsh chemicals. Let the exfoliators do that. Also, look for one that is either oil or butter based. This will give your skin an extra layer of protection which will help keep skin moisturized.

Apply to wet skin

Most exfoliators work better and more evenly (such as ours) when used with water. Many prefer to use in the shower or bath as better results are achieved when applied to wet skin.

Apply in a circular motion

Apply the exfoliator in a circular motion for even results. This process will help stimulate the cells and will increase your blood circulation.

Wash off

Be sure to thoroughly wash off any leftover product or old skin residue. Leftover product on the skin can be drying.

Apply Lotion

Keeping your freshly revealed skin hydrated is key to skin health. Applying lotion will help lock in moisture and will prevent your skin from drying out or flaking.

So, how often should you exfoliate? We recommend exfoliating at least once a week. However, less is suggested in the summer months, especially if you are exposed to sunlight more frequently. Exfoliating can cause sun-sensitivities so don’t forget to use your sunscreen.

All good things,
