What's really in your bar soap?

A lot of people are on a quest for body and face products that will help them fight the signs of aging, dry skin, breakouts and other afflictions.

They go to experts, research on the internet, visit their local high end department stores, and consult with dermatologists … anything to find the perfect regimen.

They will spend hundreds of dollars a month on these products.

And, then they start every morning taking a shower and using a bar of soap.  With that decision, they can negate a great part of what they’re trying to accomplish.

We all have used bar soaps, but do you really know what’s in them?  Are you aware of how they can affect your skin?

Soap making has not really changed for centuries and today most soaps are still made from fats and oils that react with lye (sodium hydroxide). Solid fats like tallow (rendered beef fat), or lard (rendered pork fat), are used to form bars of soap that stay hard and resist dissolving in the water left in the soap dish.  That is one of the main goals of the soap makers … make it so the bar doesn’t dissolve quickly.

If that’s not disgusting enough, bar soaps can dry your skin.  You feel “squeaky” clean and skin feels tight, but that is the result of oils being stripped from your body.  Not a good way to start the day and especially crucial to avoid for those with psoriasis, eczema or atopic dermatitis.

Body washes are a better alternative BUT usually contain ingredients that should be avoided.  Triclosan, sulfates, phthalates, and parabens have all been linked to disorders including some serious conditions that can promote cancer, hormone disruptors, free radicals and high estrogen contents.  Unfortunately, the majority of body washes are mostly water.  We continuously test our competitors and the norm is 80 plus percent water.  We have seen some products as high as 92% water!

A great way to start the day is with Absolutely Natural’s line of body washes (along, of course, with our shampoo and conditioner).  Aloe is our first ingredient and we have nutrient oils to help keep skin hydrated.  Our proprietary blend of Quillija Saponaria and Saponified Coconut Oil has a good amount of lather and leaves skin feeling clean and hydrated.

Use our body wash daily along with our wide variety of lotions, butters, crèmes, facial products and oils and your beauty regimen is set.

Quest over!

Best regards,

Charley
