Cedarwood (Juniperus Virginiana) Essential Oil
Table of Contents
Safety First
Cedarwood is a very safe oil. It has no known toxicity and no contraindications. However, there are several cedarwoods out there (Juniperus ashei, Chamaecyparis lawsoniana, Cedrus deodara, Chamaecyparis funebris). These all have different compositions, and some of them are not recommended during pregnancy. Absolutely Natural uses only organic, tested, pure Cedarwood Juniperus virginiana grown in the U.S. To avoid skin irritation with this and all oils, use in blends at a final concentration below 3% of the total volume.
True Cedarwood essential oil has a longer shelf life than other oils, and when properly stored it can last up to eight years. However, if the oil or the blend using the oil smells different than when you first purchased it, the product may have oxidized, and it is best to discard the oil or blend. Oxidized oils can irritate the skin.
How Does It Work
Absolutely Natural uses only organic, tested Cedarwood essential oil with the main components of α-cedrene, cedrol, and thujopsene. These compounds are very unique to cedarwood and contribute to its characteristic, rich aroma and overall sensory experience.
Cedarwood essential oil has been traditionally valued in aromatherapy for its warm, grounding scent that helps promote a sense of relaxation and balance. When applied to the skin in a lotion or carrier oil, Cedarwood essential oil helps condition and soothe the skin, leaving it feeling soft and refreshed.

Fun Fact
Cedarwood essential oil is steam-extracted from the wood of the cedar tree. The wood gives the tree its strength and support. It carries water and nutrients throughout the trunk and protects the tree from the elements.
In aromatherapy, cedarwood’s warm, grounding aroma is often associated with feelings of stability and connection, much like the strong wood it comes from. Many people enjoy using cedarwood essential oil in blends when they want to unwind or create a sense of calm and balance.
