Safety First
Lime essential oil is very safe if it has been distilled from the fruit rind. Cold pressed essential oil from lime is phototoxic, meaning that if applied to the skin it can amplify the sun’s rays and cause severe burns. Absolutely Natural uses only organically produced distilled lime essential oil to ensure its safety and to avoid pesticide contamination. This oil can be used at 3% of the total product concentration. Store all oils in a dark, well-sealed container, ideally in a cool place.
Citrus (genus Rutaceae) oils, including Lime, have a shelf-life of one to two years. If the oil is old or oxidized, it can cause skin sensitization. Depending on your nose sensitivity, the oil will smell rancid if it has expired. If this happens, discard the oil.
How Does It Work
Lime essential oils vary in composition depending on the subspecies. Absolutely Natural uses Lime essential oil from Italy, grown organically and analyzed to determine its natural components. This oil typically contains about 50% limonene, 15% γ-terpinene, and 10% β-pinene. This unique composition sets it apart from other citrus oils, giving it a distinct, lively character.
Like other citrus oils, Lime essential oil is known for its bright, refreshing scent that helps create an uplifting and energizing atmosphere. In sensory studies, citrus aromas have been explored for their potential to support a sense of relaxation and alertness in various environments.
