Safety First
Sweet Orange essential oil is a very safe oil and can be used for children six months and older. If applied to the skin, keep the concentration below 3% of the total product. Store all oils in a dark, well-sealed container, ideally in a cool place.
Citrus (genus Rutaceae) oils, including Sweet Orange, have a shelf-life of one to two years. If the oil is old or oxidized it can cause skin sensitization. Depending on your nose sensitivity, the oil will smell rancid if it has expired. If this happens, discard the oil.
How Does It Work
Sweet Orange essential oils vary in composition depending on where the fruit was grown. Absolutely Natural uses Sweet Orange essential oil from Italy, grown organically and analyzed to determine its components. Italian Sweet Orange essential oil has an average of 90% d-limonene and 2% ß-myrcene. The other components are present in trace amounts, but they contribute to an “entourage effect”. This means that all of the compounds in a pure, organic essential oil work synergistically to produce a stronger and more beneficial effect than if one compound was isolated and used alone.
Sweet Orange essential oil has a familiar and relaxing scent. The oil has been shown to have the potential to help clear the air, as well as other stress-relieving effects.

Fun Fact
Unlike most other essential oils, citrus oils are primarily made by cold pressing the fruit rind rather than through steam distillation. This process involves piercing and pressing fruit peels to release the oil, which is then separated from the juice. This preserves the aroma that is characteristic of citrus. In cooking, we shave the rind into food to add the most flavor. Why do we eat oranges? These fruits are very healthy for us providing vitamins and fiber. When you think of oranges, you might think of the sun, summertime and breakfast. These are things we may associate with positive events or a new beginning. This oil has an important function for the plant and fruit itself. It can repel insects and promote healthy plant growth. Our cells are not all that different from plant cells, so let it work its magic for you too!
