Spring Sunscreen
Spring is here, which means summer is right around the corner.
Although Absolutely Natural recommends year-round use of sunscreen, it is especially important in the summer. If you ever wondered why, it is simple.
Earth's tilt causes the sun's rays to hit the Northern Hemisphere at a more direct angle, delivering more concentrated sunlight over a smaller area compared to the more slanted rays in winter. This results in longer daylight hours and higher temperatures. As more solar energy reaches the Earth, UVB intensity is more acute.
It is well documented that sun can adversely affect you. Here are some things to consider:
- Skin cancer
Unprotected exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage DNA in skin cells, which can lead to uncontrolled cell growth and skin cancer.
- Premature aging
UV rays can cause the skin to lose elasticity and wrinkle.
- Brown spots and freckles
Sun exposure can cause freckles and larger brown spots. These are often called age spots, but they are actually caused by sun exposure.
- Enlarged blood vessels.
Sun exposure can break down the connective tissue that supports blood vessels, causing them to enlarge and become visible.
- Hyperpigmentation
Sun exposure can cause blotchy or mottled skin with dark and light patches, or red discoloration.
Sounds ominous, huh?
The good news is that you can enjoy the sun with the proper precautions. For years, Absolutely Natural has been training people on the 3-P’s. That stands for Protect, Promote and Prolong.
You see, the bony areas of your body (ears, backs of the knees, decolletage area) need higher protection. UVB Rays are the main cause of sunburn, and they can reflect off the skin as well as absorbed by the epidermis. Consequently, they adversely affect the body where there is less mass. This area needs a Protector, and we usually recommend our SPF 50 or SPF 30.
Other areas of the body have muscle or fat beneath the skin, and they can use a Promoter. Depending on skin type and your goals in the sun, we usually recommend our SPF 15 or our SPF 8. After you get a base tan, you can even use our luxurious blends of oil in our Platinum product to achieve a deep, dark tan. However, always use an SPF product on sun sensitive areas.
Finally, the most important step and some people know nothing about it. The Prolonger is essential for after exposure care. Our two aloe products shine for this. Tried and true after 33 years at resorts in sub-tropical and tropical climates. The Pure Aloe with Tea Tree and our renown Rose Hip Aloe Lotion.
Proper usage is paramount. When applying sunscreens as a Protector or Promoter, you NEVER rub them into the skin. Instead, you should “lay” the lotion on your skin and let it set for a minute or so. Then gently massage into the skin.
After exposure, you should take a warm shower, pat yourself dry and apply the Pure Aloe anywhere that you may have picked up significant sun. The aloe helps jump start your tanning process. The most important of all is using the Rosehip Aloe lotion. Again, “lay” it on the skin for a minute before massaging it in. Rosehip Aloe is a super moisturizer. Taking those two steps will condition your skin for more exposure. Daily use of the Rose Hip Aloe can maintain your tan for weeks longer.
Now the greatest, most exciting news! After 9 months on the market, our new sunscreens are receiving rave reports from highly trained tanning consultants around the globe. Our fantastic chemist, Claudia Lawson, spent more than two years creating a 100% mineral, zinc sunscreen (non-nano), that goes on sheer but provides better protection and water resistance than chemical laden products, and other mineral sunscreens, that resort to chemical boosters to achieve high SPF’s.
I am so certain you will love this new line and get great satisfaction that I personally guarantee it.
Best regards,
Charley
